  • If u actually learn to read more its the LAW. AT&T must give you your unlock code regardless once its over 90days when u purchase ur fone. I just did it, but normally they try to play dumb and tell u they cannot do such thing but if u read up about it its the law

  • i just called them and told them i was moving to europe and wanted to still use my phone and they said to “do not support unlocking phones”’ what should i say to them when i call back

    Comment by nate — September 9, 2009

  • Nate, if you call back, you may get a different person. Experience has shown me that the customer service reps are not all the same. Some say this and then another says yeah sure, no problem, let me get that started for you. You could point out that they should follow the law which says they can’t refuse you an unlock code.

  • What is the name of the law that says they must give you an unlock code? I find official sounding jargon gets people moving more than saying that “some law” says so.

  • you moving out of the country it doesn’t matter if att support your phone cos you won’t be using att anyway

  • I bought the phone from Walmart. While in the US visiting family, I was using my parent SIM.
I am now redeployed to oversee, I called this number was referred to a 800 331 0500.
After 3 calls, 20 minutes of collect phone to 800 number, they still refused to provide unlock code.
What should I do now? Ship it back and get a refund? Can someone help me get this unlock?

  • I read on another site, that AT&T just wants you to add their international plan, once you do that they’ll give you the code. It’s a pain in the arse but you can cancel the service immidiately and pay a pro-rated charge.

  • Hello,

I live in Costa Rica and bought my e71x on ebay…they sold it to me as unlocked, but it wasnt. Now I have no idea how to unlock the thing. Can someone recomend me what to do….The seller is offering me a refund but that would mean me paying again the shipping back to the states.

  • My cousin works for AT&T in Seattle. I’ll hit her up for the f’in low down when I get the chance…I also use “JoikuSpot Light” for my own free 3g wifi Hot spot from my e71x as my net connect card. Minus the sixty bucks/mo…but hacked my phone completely from Nokia’s constant invalid/unsigned certificate error msg’s ect.. (that only pops up for any app that “you” want to install) with these three applications(“Hello0X2” “ROMpatcher” & “FreeSigner”) before all

  • Hi, I live in Trinidad and i bought my phone from ebay, it was listed as unlocked but when i actually put my sim card in it said locked. I called AT&T and they said i needed to give them the name of the person who the phone was registered under, but of course I have no clue, so they said that they could not give it to me. Any suggestions?

  • Wikipedia says in article “SIM lock” section United States …

    “United States

One of the two national GSM carriers, T-Mobile,[42] will unlock handsets for those with active account in good standing for at least 40 days and no unlock code request in the last 90 days. T-Mobile will also unlock a phone if the full retail price is paid and proof of purchase is provided through a faxed document. The other, AT&T Wireless,[43] will usually do so once one has concluded his or her contract, but may unlock the phone in some other situations as well. Neither carrier is compelled to unlock phones by any law or regulation, and they may choose not to unlock certain phones. For example, AT&T has stated that they themselves will not unlock iPhones under any circumstances, regardless of the legality of doing so, even after customers are out of contract.[44]

It[clarification needed] was first publicly discussed by the FCC in 2006, after a submission to the US Librarian of Congress concerned respect[clarification needed] to Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) exemptions, and Stanford law professor Jennifer Granick specifically stated that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) does not prohibit handset locking.[45] The DMCA formerly was claimed to criminalize unlocking[clarification needed]. However, an exemption introduced on November 27, 2006 specifically permits it. The exemption was scheduled to expire on October 27, 2009,[46] but was extended on an interim basis, because the Register of Copyrights had not yet completed its triennial review of DMCA exemptions.[47] In July 2010, the Librarian of Congress extended the DMCA exemption for another 3 years.[48][49]
