I’m trying to change my message alert tone and you say to “Use the drop down arrow” to change the message alert type from the messaging screen. There is no drop down arrow anywhere in the messaging menu for a Sumsung Impression. Are you even talking about the right phone?

This does not help at all.

This does work to change the tone for your message. You have to look under the sound profiles (outdoor, car, normal, etc.) For example you touch the outdoor setting and it will open to allow you to change the volume/ vibration as well as the tone for your calls. At the top there is a drop down box and you can change from calls to messaging and that is where you go to change the tone for you messages as well as the volume/vibration. The sound has to be on your phone, not just on a memory card.

Here is how to do it:

    -Press the menu icon
    -Press on the setting icon
-Press on the sound profile icon
    -Press on the “normal” icon

Once you are there, there is an icon where you can switch between “call”, “message”, and “phone”… when you choose “message” you go to a new menu.

In this new menu you can choose message alert type (melody, vibration, vibration & melody, mute), message alert tone (where you can select one of the tones available or choose a tone that you have saved on the phone or memory card), alert repetitions, tone volume, and vibration patterns.

    There you go!

This actually did help. I didn’t follow the directions completely, the volume is just fine for me. I just wanted to know how to change the ringtone for my text messages I clicked on the speaker widget and it came up I clicked on normal. I then changed the ringtone vibration settings etc. I personally had no problems my phone is the way I want it. Thanks for the info.

To change your message alert tone, when you are on the page that shows the different tones, press the tone’s button on the bottom right in grey and it will list all of the songs and ect.

ok folks, Im going to try and explain what you have to do to put a different text message tone to a certain contact in your address book.
    1. go to your contact that you wish to set a text message tone to.
    2. touch the contact and then “edit” then scroll down til you see “message tone”
    3. tap “message tone” and then “change”
    4. tap “special tone” this will take you to where you will tap “audio”
    5. scroll down til you find the tone you want to use
    6. be sure to tap “save” before exiting your contact
if anyone has problem…email me at lori9598@yahoo.com

why is no one acknowledging the questions about the ascending ringtone volume? on my phone, i don’t have any options for “increasing volume” or anything like that. if someone knows how to get rid of the increasing volume, please help!! both my ringtones and text messages do this.
