You can’t conect your samsung impression with your Mac PC, as its tethering tool doesn’t support Mac OS

I just got the impression and I also have a mac. I exported my contacts from my address book into a folder on my desktop… connected phone with computer via bluetooth and sent the contact file from the mac. It copied name, address phones, birthdays everything. I haven’t figured anything else out yet, but I will let you know if I do.

The Pc suite is not conmpatible with Mac, so there is no method to sync your phone with a mac

I’m a Mac user too. This absolutely stinks big time. Why (how) can a phone this advanced not be compatible with Mac? I don’t get it. I love my phone, but I certainly wouldn’t have purchased it if I had known this.

I owned this phone for about two weeks and was able to sync contacts using the PC Studio software for the Samsung Eternity. I went to Samsung’s site, pulled up the Eternity, and downloaded the PC Studio they had there.

I did this on Windows Vista 64-bit and it worked ok. It gave me a periodic USB driver error, but I just assume that was because i was running 64-bit. No problems though. I’d expect this to work fine on 32-bit XP and Vista then.

why don’t the mac users just get the iphone. you bitch and complain that everything non-mac sucks and then you buy something that’s not apple and bitch that it’s not compatible with apple products?

    freaking stupid.
it would be nice if all mac fanboys and asskissers would just seclude themselves from the rest of the world and go suck each other’s dicks.

okay i figured out how to sinc it with a mac and put music on the impression!

alright, so set your mac bluetooth on. click advanced and make sure both checkboxes are checked for bluetooth-pda-sync. also make sure in the main bluetooth menu your computer is discoverable. also, put your bluetooth in the taskbar at the top of the screen.
then, turn bluetooth on on the impression, (settings –>connectivity –>bluetooth). search for your computer, you’ll then enter a password on the phone and the computer (the same one.)
on your phone, go to “my info” and put “remote sim control ON.”
then, click the bluetooth button at the top of the screen, and click “send file.”
decide what file to send, and click send.
a new window will pop up, click whatever is in the irst line and click “send.”

    and there you go! :)

Savorybacon – Comments like yours aren’t helpful. Not all Mac users have or want an iPhone. I’m sure you can afford to foot the bill for all those $30 data plans, since you want them all secluded from you and your “chosen few”. They have just as much right as you or anyone else to buy whatever computer or phone they choose, if they have the means. With all haste, return to your mother’s basement. Do not return, nor enter into a battle of wits for which you are clearly unarmed.

Sam, RCar, thanks for the tips on bluetooth sync.

I’m giving the Impression a hard look but wanted to be sure the PC Sync SW is smart enough to recognize time zones in appointments. I have Motorola Phone Tools and bought it with the intent of syncing my RAZR to Outlook, a claimed feature. It worked pretty well, except… I work with people from other time zones and many of my outlook appointments were created by them. The sync tool would place the appointments in my phone at the originators time zone… not mine. This is a known issue and the SW provider has no plans to fix it.

Does the Samsung PC Studio address cross time zone appointments?

If not, is there another application that does?

I’ve read that PC Suite for the Samsung Eternity allows Impression owners to sync their contacts & calendar with Outlook. Can anyone (who actually has the phone and has tried it with success) confirm and offer any further pointers on the matter? If I can’t sync with my PC and Outlook, I’m not getting the phone. I’d rather stick with my outdated, non-touch screen, slow web browsing phone that still makes completes calls and text messages and allows me to have my contacts backed up.

I have the impression and a mac and was able to transfer files back and forth. I just connected the two through the USB cord, and when the tree options showed up on the phone screen, I selected ‘mass storage’. I then looked at the finder in my computer, and the phone had popped up under ‘devices’. When you click on the phone under ‘devices’, you see files for the data stored on the phone. From there, I was able to drag music files into the folder ‘audio’ -> ‘music’. I was also able to transfer pics from my phone into iphoto using this method. Note that iphoto will automatically pop up and say that there’s nothing to import, but if you go into the phones files like you do to find the music, you can find your photos and drag them straight into iphoto, or use the import pictures option in iphoto and go to the file that way. Couldn’t find a way to sync the calendar and contacts, but this at least makes the media player usable. Hope this helps!

If you are like me or dont know much about comp. thats why i took the time to explain myself.

Well I have the Impression. It is a great phone and I love everything except the fact that I cannot sync the phone with my Mac. I should not be expected to buy the iPhone just because I have a Mac computer. Just because I prefer Mac computers to PCs doesn’t mean I want my phone through Mac. Why would I know that Samsung, who doesn’t make computers, would be affiliated with PC and not Mac? This is outrageous and I will be complaining further about it to the store and the salesman that failed to mention this when selling me the phone. I don’t use Bluetooth either. So I guess I’m out of luck.

I can not get my PC Studio software to find my Impression. I keep searching but it does not find it. I have downloaded, installed, uninstalled and installed PC Studio several times. I have NPS Version 1.1.1.IC8. What is the problem?

  25. Robert
    November 6th, 2009 | 8:19 am

Forget about PC Studio of any version for syncing the Impression to Outlook, unless you’ve been able to get ver 3 to work, as some people claim. No way did it work for me. After an exhaustive search, I finally found a great product. Take $25 and go to datapilot.com. It is currently set up for bluetooth only on the Impression. If your computer already has BT, you’re golden. Otherwise, you can get a BT USB dongle for $20. Then you’re done spending. The setup of DataPilot was a little challenging, but with their help, it works mighty fine. Actually, the setup problem was created by me when I let the BT dongle software install the BT drivers. Datapilot software didn’t like that. With their help, I had to delete some of the BT stuff, and then, everything was cool.

    Amy,
What kind of Mac do you have? Why does the USB cable work for you, I wonder? Do you have a memory card in your Impression?

Has anyone tried using the Impression with the Unibody MacBook Pro?

  27. BigPak
    November 11th, 2009 | 8:19 pm

I recently bought the Impression and have a MacBook. I can transfer files via bluetooth but the USB cable does not work. I tried Amy’s suggestion but my phone doesn’t show up on my Mac. I don’t have a memory card on my phone (yet), probably that’s why. Have to rely on bluetooth for now.

Does anyone have a >2GB card on the phone? Does it work fine? Samsung recommends only a 2GB card and I wanted to make sure before I buy a memory card. Thanks!

I found out how to send your address book contacts to the Samsung Impression:
    1. Turn on bluetooth and visibility on both the phone and Mac computer.
    2. Go to the phone bluetooth info and select “Remote SIM Control” “On.”
    3. Go to Mac bluetooth menu and select “Set Up Bluetooth Device” and select your phone and set up as “Mobile Phone.忙
    4. Type in password and get connected then go back to main bluetooth screen on phone and select the Mac computer on the ‘radar.’
    5. Select “Device Settings” and change “Connection Options” to “Automatic”
    6. Go to “Address Book” on Mac computer and select the contacts you want on your phone.
    7. Right click and select “Export vCard” then select to your desktop or somewhere easy to find.
    8. Go back to the Mac bluetooth icon in the menu bar and click on “Send File…”
    9. Select the “vCards” file.
    10. Check phone to make sure no messages pop up and wait about 30 seconds.
    11. Go back to Samsung Address Book and find all of your exported contacts there.
This file transfer method also works with pictures, videos, and music files. It supports jpeg and mp3 files and if you want to set it as a ringtone it needs to be less than 25 seconds. Additionally you can send files to the Mac computer.

Thanks to all for posts. I’m dumbfounded that Samsung / AT&T would sell a phone in the year 2009 that does not sync Calendars and Tasks. Didn’t check this before I bought the phone, and now find that I can’t do it.

Yes memory cards do work with the impression(actually I have a 8 gb sandisk that works perfectly) and as for people who the usb cable isn’t working for on a mac, set the phone to mass storage when u plug it in and the mac will treat it as a flash drive and now u can transfer music and pics like u would with a memory stick.

I’m having the same problem with using the USB card. My phone keeps saying “insert memory card”. Even when I select mass storage. This is getting very annoying :/

  37. pantrygirl
    December 11th, 2009 | 6:39 pm

    I tried Amy’s suggestions.
I just wanted to add that if you do not receive the tree option at first, you’ll need to go intoSettings 鉃 Connectivity 鉃擲elect USB Mode.
You can either select ‘Ask on Connection’ or ‘Mass Storage’.

We tried both on my MIL’s phone. (Try doing this via iChat to a newbie cell phone user folks.)

Both options gave us the same message everyone else received, “Insert Memory Card”.

Funny thing is the definition in the Impression manual of mass storage says:
鈥 Mass Storage: allows you to utilize the onboard storage capacity of
the phone to store and upload files. This option allows your
computer to detect the phone as a removable storage drive.

Apparently, this is not true or not true for Mac users.
All we want to do is load iPhoto photos into a proud Grandma’s phone.

Now we’ve told her to purchase a microSD鈩 Memory Card Slot (up to a 16GB card) as per AT&T and we’ll try this again.
I’ll let you know if we get past the dreaded ‘Insert Memory Card’ message.

  38. pantrygirl
    December 12th, 2009 | 10:28 pm

Ok, my MIL bought a microSD card and I confirm that Amy’s suggestions work only with a microSD card.

Essentially, you cannot use just onboard storage for the USB connection for data transfer.

    Also some good reminders:
If you are transferring music, remember to convert it to MP3 in iTunes.
If you are transferring video, remember to convert to a Windows Media friendly file type.

Wow I just bought this phone, love it as a phone but its pretty tragic they didnt make the effort to make it isync compatable, I will try exporting contacts into address book, but would appreciate a real clear methodology about how to go about it. anyone?
I succeeded in setting up the bluetooth connect and have exchanged files via the Macs bluetooth utility, A note to PC verses Mac folks, I own A Mac Pro and Macbook pro, and a lenovo PC laptop running win7 and an Emachine desktop, Ive had to reinstall the XP operating systenm 4 times on the latter due to driver corruption , adware ,malware and general malfunction of XP, I got kind of hopeful about Win 7 and it has some cool features and looks, however within a month of owning the laptop i am getting a black screen after the very cozy log in screen. I see this is happening to a lot of folks , so bottomline I need a drama free reliable operating system, which is Mac. I am considering converting all the pcs to Ubuntu 9.10 which is on par with mac but sadly lacking in hardware drivers still,
Yes Id love an Iphone but I cannot afford $30 for a bunch of stuff i do not need, so wake up AT&T and mobile phone manufactures, I predict Microsoft will be outa here within 5 years and Apple and Linux will be competing, people can only stand so much disfunction. oh and the Macpro is going on 3 years of blissfull productivity, they are as reliable as the weakest link ,their hard drive. also when you back up your mac you can actually restore it, havnt succeeded restoring a pc once even on the Lenovo one touch ‘function’, simply does not work as indeed the Windows ‘System Restore’ fails when you need it not to.

    Hi All,

I have a Samsung Impression (SGH-A877). I’ve read through the posts but haven’t found anyone who says they got their Samsung Impression phone to work with DataPilot. I just purchased the latest version (v6 I believe) but can’t get it to work. Has anyone been able to do this? I think part of my problem is the my bluetooth is using the Toshiba drivers. Is there a way to use other drivers that work with DataPilot? I also have the USB datacable, but I have read that only bluetooth is supported for my phone. The software looks like it would be nice to use, but so far, nothing. Any help, especially step-by-step setup would be VERY appreciated! Thanks!

Getting Impression to Sync with Outlook:
I can not take credit for this partial solution. I found the following post at Amazon by Tharuthalai “asami”:
“The outlook sync is easy to fix. I downloaded the eternity pc studio software instead of the impression software and outlook sync was easy. This Eternity version works on Windows XP but wont work on my vista at home as claimed by Samsung (as of May 20, 2009). Luckily, I have XP at work and was able to sync about 400 numbers quickly. Hope Samsung restores the outlook sync feature that they failed to add in the impression version of pc studio and also fixes the vista bugs. ATT or Samsung may not advise us to use the eternity software for Impression but I know that Outlook contacts and calendar has become essential for most of us. ”

I did exactly what he/she suggested and it solves about 75 to 80% of the problem. You can easily transfer calendar events and contacts and it will actively sync back and forth, but the Impression can not handle all the features of the PC studio version for the Eternity. For example, the software will recognize a standing appointment for every 1st Thursday of the Month, while the phone will recognize the 1st Thursday, it itself will only let you create an appointment meeting every 4th day of the month.

i purchased the impression in may 2009, this phone seemed to be lagging when switching in between calling, texing, and going online, so i exchanged a new one within a month. the 2nd phone seemed to work the best, except it got stolen in july 2009. paid the deductible and got a new one (3rd phone), same problems occured as the 1st phone, but was too tired to get a 4th one within 3 months. sticked with it until now, been having the texting problem occasionally where i had to reboot the phone to send messages. still tolerable, however after 7 months (March 2010), the touch screen is completely DYSFUNCTIONED!!! cannot do anything except receiving phone calls. here i am, looking for a way to salvage my contacts where i can. i’ve been successful in transferring photos to my macbook pro (thanks to amy and RCcar), but not contacts…. also, i can’t find out how to copy my contacts to my microSD either, can anyone help??
it’s a great phone minus all these malfunctions, extremely disappointed with samsung…
