  • i understand everything on downloading the program but i dont understand where i can get the driver from. when i plug my USB port into my computer to sync with the program its saying i still need a driver..where the hell do i get that???

    Comment by melanie — October 5, 2009

  • The USB driver comes on the CD that came with the phone.

    Comment by Clayton — October 8, 2009

  • I’m running Vista 64-bit. I’ve downloaded and installed Samsung’s PC studio. I’ve tried to install the USB drivers for the Solstice. Not sure if they installed or not – no errors though. PC studio doesn’t see my phone. Vista cannot find the USB driver. I’ve directed it to the CD that came with the phone but it doesn’t see a driver to go with the device it sees on the USB port. What a pain this is. Samsung cannot have tested this at all.

    Comment by Tom — October 16, 2009

  • I’ve concluded that the drivers are missing or just don’t work with 64 bit Vista. I installed on my other machine (WinXP SP4) and everything works fine.

  • The Samsung New PC Studio software includes the driver necessary to connect to the phone. The phone does not come from AT&T with the USB cable but they are available at various stores.
If you have tried installing other Samsung software prior to downloading the version listed above, just uninstall it first and remember to restart your pc before starting the install. I am running Win XP (32bit) and the PC Studio is ver. 1.2.1

    Comment by treather — November 28, 2009

  • I also have the problem. New PC studio does not see my phone. Used the drivers that came on the CD… Then (After re-boot) installed studio, and re-booted again. No Joy… Called Samsung. They told me that they are aware of the issue, but, have turned it over to the developer. They think it is a windows security issue..(I don’t think so)… Probably either driver, or how they wrote the code for the program… Mine worked 1 time only… never again… I think it is time to return this junk and work harder to find a MOTO that is as good as my V3… It is a shame, as I really like the phone….
    Thanks…

    Comment by spaceguy09 — December 3, 2009

  • To get the driver you just use the CD that came with the phone and install them. If that doesn’t work you’re pretty much f’d, but I don’t doubt you could just google it. There may or may not be a solution.

No point searching for six hours otherwise, it’s just a waste of time.

  • Wow, I feel really bad for you people. You need a micro SD memory card to store mp3s or any decent amount of pictures… too easy to take the card out of the phone and put it into the computer, and tadaa! Transfer all your music, videos, and pics easy as pie. And as far as syncing your contacts…. bluetooth works easy as hell, and if your computer doesn’t have bluetooth you can buy a dongle for less than the cost of the USB cable… got mine for 99¢ on ebay :)

    Comment by nashar — December 29, 2009

  • Thanks for the info. Got the SD card working fine.
Now, is there a way to add something to the widget, other than those listed. For instance: Recent calls?

    Comment by Judi — January 2, 2010

  • This worked for me!!! Get PC Studio to connect to your Solstice!

1.please make sure your phone is set on USB mode.

Dial *#197328640# like you were making a call
    select 9 fro common
    select 6 for usb configuration

Check the following to fix the problem:

“Mediaplayer I believe will look for qualcom drivers. That is why I told you to put the phone in pc-studio mode before making sure it was on samsung USB. That screen changes according to what USB connectivity you have selected.

When you say you have tried this on multiple computers….do they all try and look for qualcom drivers when in pc-studio mode? It just shouldnt look for qualcom if samsung is selected.

Hate to say this. Make sure your phone is not connected to your computer. Make sure it is set on pc-studio mode and that it is assigned to samsung USB in the service menu. No qualcom. Then reboot yourphone . Uninstall pc-studio. And uninstall any samsung drivers or qualcom drivers in your control panel’s add/remove programs. Reboot your computer. Then install the new pc-studio. After it is completely installed then connect to PC-studio.

Go to the device manager on your computer and check under modems for a samsung mobile modem. It should be there. Keep your phone plugged in and close pc-studio including the monitoring icon in the control panel.

Since your phone is still plugged in, it should not search for new drivers. Start up TKFE, assign your com port which should be there and try and connect. ”

Thanks the fans in the Samsung Solstice forum solving the problem, learn more here.

    Comment by Judi — January 9, 2010

  • I dont know why any of you are having trouble with the music, I plugged in the usb cable to the phone, and using windows media player I easily transfered music and audio files. the issue I am having is with pictures, I got to upload them after a while of figuring out how to do it. my problem is that whenever i try to open any of the pictures (amplified) on the computer I get 90% of the image in grey and the topish part shows the top of the picture, while in the computer menus (unamplified) the images are perfect. How do I optimize or do whatever to the photo so that they open normally?

    Comment by Fred — January 11, 2010

  • I really hope this software works. I uploaded the software that came with my phone for some reason my pc doesn’t recognize a new device although, when I initially installed the software it came up new hardware found but, no device was located when I clicked my computer.

    Comment by Jessica — February 18, 2010

  • Same problem with drivers…solved!
Just uninstall any Samsung software and all Samsung drivers…the best way using Control Panel\Programs and Features
You will see many, many different drivers with Samsung name …just Uninstall all of them …don’t restart your PC yet…wait until the last one is uninstalled. When this is clean…then Restart the computer.
Make sure the phone is NOT connected to PC yet.
Now, install the Samsung NEW PC Studio (as of today the newest is Samsung_NPS_1.2.1.IH1) …Restart again.
Turn on your phone and set Connectivity–>Select USB Mode –>Samsung PC Studio, then Save.
Connect your phone to PC via USB cable.
Your PC will attempt to install the driver…let it finish. This time it should find it without problem. No need to point to any specific location.
Once the driver is installed the Samsung New PC Studio will start and connect to the phone…
This precedure works for me on Vista.

It is being recognized as new hardware via USB, but says that there are no drivers available even though I do have Samsung PC Studio 3 installed. Any ideas?

    Comment by Rich — March 12, 2010

  • If you have a blue-tooth devise for your computer turn your phone’s blue-tooth on, connect via blue-tooth to your computer, right-click on the wallpaper image or ringtone file, then mouse over Send To, and click Bluetooth Devise. Once you do that you can double click on the name of your phone which you can find in your phone by going to the Bluetooth settings then My Info. It will start downloading to your phone.
I’ve used it to add wallpaper, images and sounds to my phone very easily, without a program. I think your computer and phone has to have the right blue-tooth transfer driver though.

Under the compatibility tab, select XP service pack 2, and check the box that says “run this program as administrator.” Once I did this the program installed and opened successfully. Good luck

  • Considering I’ve long been a big fan of Samsung products, this is really disappointing for me. This is the second Samsung cell phone I’ve owned that had a major PC Studio issue that interfered with its fundamental operation (the other being the a437’s un-erasable internal memory). I mean, come on. This isn’t some minor bug with an easy workaround. It isn’t something that affects only a small minority of users on some ancient operating system. Samsung- make it right! I realize this isn’t a brand new top-of-the-line phone here, but if it takes me getting a Captivate for Samsung to give a shit about me, no thanks I’ll get an iphone instead.

  • Hi

I’ve just bought the samsung advance sgh-A885 and after spending 2 hours with my cell company and samsung company I (not them) found out that my frontal USB port on my crappy HP machine are not working with this phone (they work with my mp3 player and alot of other stuff) but for some unknown reason they refuse to see my cell phone when i try to sync. So i just plug it in the usb slot in back of my HP pc and it finnaly worked.

For your info NPS or new pc studio is available on the samsung web site (version 1.5.1) and contain the drivers (cause in the box of my cell phone they were no cd for the drivers or what so ever). So after downloading and installaing NPS 1.5.1 and found it out that my frontal usb port were not working everything started to work.

Sorry for the missspelling, I’m french so english is not my native langage.

  • The following is for XP computers. But keeping your pc up to date with windows updates is always the first step to happiness when installing crap like this.

I followed this link http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/mobile/mobile-phones/at-t-phones/SGH-A887ZKAATT/index.idx?pagetype=prd_detail&tab=support that was posted above and it works fine on my pc with exception to the address book feature but you can’t have it all i guess.

Go to downloads link then drivers. Grab the latest version of studio and save it some were on your pc. Was a real slow download…zzzzz. Just remember were you put it. Next make sure your .net updates are up to date and your windows updates are current. XP is Service Pack (SP) 3 now. both of those updates are important or you will taste failure and it has nothing to do with Samsung.

Go ahead and go to control panel, add/remove programs and remove Samsung drivers. I saw a driver removal tool during driver install so this may not be necessary but im telling you what worked for me. When it ask’s you to restart do so. When pc is finished rebooting go to were you downloaded studio program and install it. Very Important!!! Don’t plug your phone in till studio is finished installing, doing so may cause you to fail miserably and mean a uninstall/reinstall of studio.

Enjoy your new software, i know i will now that i can finally put video clips on my phone that will actually play for friends at work using the converter in studio. If anyone figures out address book, let me know. I’m wondering if it doesn’t work since i told phone to save address’s to memory chip instead of phone ram…..

If all you want to do is move music you don’t even need software. Buy a memory chip for your phone (micro SD – 16Gb is the Max which will cost you $30). Put the memory chip in the phone according to the directions that cam with the phone. Turn it on.

Plug the phone in to the sub cable – plug the other end into the Mac. The phone will now give you a couple of choices and you want the mass storage mode. Now put the phone to the side and go to your Mac.

-in the finder you will see a new disk probably called “No Name” – open it and you will see some folders, one will be called “Audio” open that one (it will be empty the first time). Now open your Music -> iTunes -> iTunes Music (older versions) or Music -> iTunes -> iTunes Media -> Music (latest version)

From here copy the artist (the whole folder) to the phone (the first window you opened). By keeping the music in the Artist and Album folder the phone will also see and be able to sort by artist and album.

After everything is done copying – click the eject button next to the “No Name” icon in the finder. Unplug the phone – you’re done.

When you open the phone’s music player it can take a few moments before the full list is there (the first time only).

OR there are several third, shareware and freeware applications that will do all of this for you – many do even more like copy your photos from the phone to the mac, or syncing the playlist. There are literally a dozen of these – I have tried a few and they all seem to work. Google “sync music from itunes to phone” (Samsung or ATT have nothing to do with this).

To sync your contacts and calendar – iSync is already on your Mac, it is better that just about anything else (this is why most phone vendors do not offer Mac software) – But it might take a few months before your phone is supported in the standard version (the one that just comes with software update). You will have to find a “driver” for your phone – again Google is the best place to look.

    Good Luck.

  • Thanks! I keep getting a popup on my phone about choosing a connection. Hopefully this download will help me fix it. It was easy and the driver(s) that came with the link also worked. This was quicker and easier than dealing with my phone provider! lol

  • I finally got my pics off of my old phone. The update 4 “Download” link gave me all the drivers and PC Studio software that I needed. Thanks!

I will also add my voice to the rest of the group, what a pain in the ass it was to find these.
