The new AT&T cell phone – Samsung Flight, also known as Samsung A797, is a lovely new generation messaging phone. It is similar to palm pre, but it is much cuter than the pre. It comes with a unique design 鈥 a full touch screen at the top and a portrait slide-out QWERTY keyboard. Though the device only offers a聽 2 MP Camera with digital zoom facility, which could be a little disappointment,聽 not great but better than the 1.3 on many other phones.
Being a messaging centric mobile phone, Samsung Flight offers an excellent SMS/MMS messaging facility with its QWERTY keyboard. It features an on-board memory of 80MB, which could be further expanded using a microSD memory card. The battery employed in it is 1000mAh that offers a life of 3 hours talk time and 360 hours stand-by time. I ran out to the store the day this phone was released and am in love with it! I’ve been a Samsung fan for a long time and had the Propel before this awesome upgrade. I would like to mention that it has really good Web surfing/Internet abilities and isn’t just for texting. I’m not a texter, but love being able to email, update Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace, read the news, watch videos, etc. on the go. I do not consider this an “entry level” phone. It is quite fancy in what it can do.
I recently had the samsung impression but once the samsung flight came out…..I love this phone. Eventhough the camera is 2.0 the image is still clear. I approve this phone 2 anyone bc it is just not an entry level phone, its unique in other ways.
Just got this phone and love it, could not be any happier…Excellent features and great to use on the go…Would recomment to anyone.
Got this phone yesterday and I love it. Great for texting, both with the slide out key pad and with the touch screen. I love the fact that you can use either one for texting. This phone is lots of fun.

i got the samsung flight yesterday and I could not love it anymore then i do! the camera is 2.0 but very clear very fast very easy simple but good and i love it!
I’m glad AT&T haas a 30 day return policy. My flight is going back today.
Reasons:
When I plug it in to charge it, it says it can’t charge, the device is too war or cold. I just had it in my pocket like 99 million other phones. When it does start to charge, it beeps, and beeps, and beeps. Don’t most people charge their phones at night on their bedside table? I had to turn it off to stop the beep. Then it didn’t fully charge overnight!
The AT&T Navigation can’t keep up with you when you’re driving. it takes several minutes to open, downlaod and figure the route. I could be halfway to my destination by the time it starts working. Then, while I was driving (luckily to aplace I knew how to get to) it didn’t keep up with me. It seemed to be a mile behind me all the way. I had the phone sitting on the dash for good GPS reception, but it still sucked.
The phoone locks up often. I’ll use the touch screen for something and then it just quits. I have to then use the button on the side that will give the option to “end all” and start over.
The touch screen doesn’t work like I’d expected. Way too many wrong commands. And don’t even try the voice recognition. I would say “Dupont Circle” and it would give me everything from Thomas Circle, to Washington Circle. Nothing that is close to “Dupont Circle” – either in sound, or distance
The display is way too dim for outdoor viewing, even at the brightest setting.
I also don’t like that they have background pictures that you can’t delete. If I wanted a photo of some kids at the beach, I’d take my own.
Compared to an i-phone, the Samsung Flight never leaves the ground.
Compared to my three year old LG flipphone, it’s a big improvement, but it’s still going back today.
I agree with MarylandDave, my husband just added me to his plan when he got the iPhone and they offered the Flight to me for free with our added line — with of course the 2 year contract bull. I said I agree with MarylandDave because of the Charging issues. It NEVER CHARGES for me when I unplug it it says its still charging and the battery lines keep moving then when I turn it off and back on trying to see if that helped it told me LOW BATTERY after charging ALL NIGHT. I tried the take battery out for ten minutes and try from scratch. THE PHONE SIMPLY DOES NOT WORK! It’s going back when my husband gets off work & I will not being taking a NEW one seeing as this one was NEW as well. It’s a suckie phone. Want to be blackberry.
ha idk wat those 2 people above me r talkin bout there totally crackin! this phone is awesome i luv it! battery is good and it charges just fine. the camera is really clear and the speaker is totally sweet i feel like wen im on the phone im like talkin to the same person in the room as me i LUV it! i also luv the pictures it came with! the yellow sky bridge is SICKKK! in conclusion dont listen to those 2 haters above me cuz there is a word for them and its called unpleaseable. if i could think of 1 thing i dont like about this phone is that the keyboard is a little small but its ok u get used to it. but ya great phone def get!!!
this phone rocks. got it yeasterday and love it. awsome txting, clear pix, and hella apps. its a nice quality phone. it takes a few seconds to open things, but you gwet use to it. i would recomend to anyone.
I love this phone! The volume is very loud and I love the calendar because it has lots of memory. I jotted down all my friends and family birthdays and and an alarm will go off every year till 2030. The key board is great the camera is fun, it has a neat sketch pad, and it holds like 7 or 8 alarms that you can name whatever you want. It also has a world clock which I use allot because I travel back and forth from U.S. and Germany. My only complaint is that it has some ugly factory installed pictures that you cant delete and they are your screen saver. All in All I would definitely recommend you buy this phone =) I never wrote a review on anything before , however I loved this phone so much I had to write this.
i got my phone on monday January 4, 2010 and i love it , everything is at your finger tips , easy to access everything, there is nothing to guess about it’s self explained on the phone…….I didn’t even have to look at the tutorial……love it , love it ….

Love this phone. No problems charging it so far…Great internet browser, texting is great, sound is good, easy to use.
Got this phone the day after new years for my wife cause her iPhone randomly freaked out. All in all it is trying to be a good but some things just look better on paper. Calls will randomly drop way too much, touch screen never works right, Internet is hit and miss no matter where she is and the fact that you have to pay a monthly fee for each app is just complete bullshit. This phone is definately not an iPhone killer nor does it even come close to competing on the same level. Save your $50, even if you do get a $50 rebate, it’s just not worth it. And even then, now that we’re going in tomorrow to exchange the phone, we have to pay a $35 restocking fee for the damn thing.
i have had no prob wiht the phone and i here more good then bad i think the one with bad comments are one out of 100000 to get a fulty phone and that sound like they should just exchange it it is much better then iphone other than you dont get as many apps and you dont have to get a enternet plan to use it like the iphone
I like the phone overall. But, I do not like the fact that you cannot change the background whenever you lock the phone. I wish I could change it to one of my own pictures. & I don’t like how it doesn’t have a head phone jack. but its a nice back up phone.
Going to have to agree with the subpar to negative reviews. Have had the phone for about 45 days, and generally happy with its phone and txt features. Web browsing is very weak even compared to other entry-level messaging phones.
My phone has also stopped charging, nothing happens when it is plugged in.
well i got this phone like 10 days ago. it charges fine. i love this phone. if you have a bad flight, bring it back and get a new one.i dont know where the beep could be coming from for others phones but mine is perfectly fine. i would reccomend this phone to anyone! it rocks. the texting rocks.the phone is really nice and its fun. lol. im only 12 and even i can say this, dont charge a phone overnight. the reason it stopped charging is because the longer the battery is full and on the charger, the more power it loses and it will stay that way forever. its not the phone. trust me. it happenes with all phones and if yuo keep charging it over night, it will keep losing more battery over and over again. it will never come back. so dont worry about if the phone is fully charged or not. just worry about if it ha battery power at all. this phone is the best! thats for a fact too.i havent had any problems exept for all of my friends keep cropping it. lol. well goodluck?. lol… byee!
how do you get a signature on the phone i cant figure it out
well, this is my 3rd flight. i absolutely love the phone itself, but the major thing i’m very frustrated with is that it randomly reboots. it does it mostly while i’m texting. i’m a huge texter and it will just suddenly reboot in the middle of texting and doesn’t save the msg to drafts. i’m really very disappointed. i can’t find anywhere that anyone else is having this issue except i’ve talked to one person that says her’s does the same but just at random times. anyone else with this problem??
i really like this phone but i makes me mad that you cant us e wifi on this phone
Maybe Dave and Brittany got the lemon phones!? Mine seems to work fine and no weird beeping noises when charging. I went from a Bberry Pearl to the Flight in order to lower my rate plan and save some money and it seems to be doing well so far….though I do miss all the free Bberry apps and GPS! Those cost extra on the Flight and so I will not be getting any anytime soon. The one thing I have to agree with Dave on is the not being able to change the screen saver photo! What’s the deal with that!? I think it’s the only crappy thing about the phone (so far…). I’m a photographer and like to take my own photos and the fact that I have a really cool wallpaper photo that I took myself but a cheesy screen saver image is kind of lame! Ah but I guess it’s just one of those little quirks you have to accept for a lower monthly bill.
Tatika, I’m having the random reboot problem too. My wife and I both got flights at the same time. After about a week, hers got stuck trying to reboot. it would partially reboot, fail and start the process all over again. it kept doing that and would not even let us turn it off. we had to reset it by removing and reinstalling the battery. we replaced the phone and her second one is fine. I’ve had my phone for about 45 days with no problem until i started using email. Since I activated email, now my phone randomly reboots like tatika described earlier. It seems to happen whenever i do practically anything involving text messaging. Typically my phone randomly reboots about 3-4 times per day. Unfortunately I’m outside the 30 day “buyers remorse” period or else I would switch to a completely different kind of phone (not a flight). I like the flight when it works but I don’t like the flakey random reboot action.
I love the phone just got it but what bothers me like most people the background i cant change it to a funny pic of me and BFF overall this is the best fone i had the LG neon the wort fone ever the screen fell off when i went to txt i got so mad now i dont hhave any memories from my old fone so any way love it the cammra is soo fun i love it so much i dont know what the other people are thinking about the cammra anyway i love the fone thz for the reveiew!!!;]
i have random reboot problem AND i have real GPS issues.
i did have an iphone…and didnt like the battery life. but now i would trade crappy battery life for better gps….(i travel a lot)
and something else – when you are speaking on phone – your cheek can accidently mute the phone….crazee design.
overall a bad choice if you use phone for anything more than casual calls and texting.
blackberry has better email functions / iphone has better gps apps. samsung is for kids.
This phone works well, and should NOT be compared to iphones or blackberries like some ignorant people are doing. It’s not a smartphone and doesnt require a 30$ per month data plan….which smarphones do. It’s a feature phone (aka “dumb” phone) and works very well for what it is designed to do.
i got this phone like about five months ago and it is so cool the only thing is i can’t put in a cute little charm or idk where the hole for it is. Can someone help? and tristan you can change the signature by going to settings display and light go to font type and choose thats the only way but it also changes the reast of the font types.
This phone isnt that great. It doesnt show the “conversation” for starters. My screen cut out on the first one I had after owning it for 2 months. They sent a replacement asap, but half my words are cut off in my texts messages (happened to the old one too). They keyboard is a little small if you have big fingers. I don’t like the fact that you cant get rid of the Alert that tells you how many voice mails you have until you listen to them. And I don’t like the fact that yu cant cange the “locked” screen pic. Battery Life is good, the camera is good as well. And i like the video sharing. If I could do it over, I wouldnt get this phone.

This phone is horrible! When I text it cuts out words and not to mention for the first 2 months I had it I couldn’t even recieve messages because it would block out numbers! The camera is blurry and the touch screen never works right. I had the samsung propel before this phone and I wish I could get it back. This phone doesn’t even allow you to upload pictures on Facebook! I would not recommend it to anyone!
I really like the look of the Flight but I have had terrible luck with it has horrible sound quality will switch to speaker phone by its self, drops calls in the same area my old nokia still works fine in. I swapped the first one I had after a weekfor another Flight. I thought it was just a quirk. I started having the same problems after about six weeks. Now they are going to send me my third Flight. I hope it works because I hate the fact I bought all of the extras and even though it is still under warranty they offered me a Pantech Reveal but not with the case and phone charger that I had bought on my initial purchase of the Flight and besides why would you get only one chose. Oh well I have the insurance on it. They can just keep on replacing it although it is total bull.
I have had my phone about two weeks. It was a replacement for a horrible phone that I had bought previously. The Samsung Flight would be great if it weren’t for the problem of randomly rebooting (while I am texting—which I do a lot). I was out of town this week and the phone became stuck in the re-booting process. I also took the battery out and then replaced it.
I did not know about this site. Had I known I would have read the comments and perhaps would have selected a different phone!
i got this phone yesterday since my 18th bday is june 4th and its my first phone i’ll ever have, now everyone’s scaring me making me think it won’t work right :[
I have never been so disappointed in or disgusted with a cell phone as I am with the Samsung Flight. My first cell phone was a Samsung…then 2 Motorola Razrs. I really like the first one, but switched to Motorola and fell in love with my Razr…until my lawn mower finished it off. So I bought another Motorola, and my toddler grandbaby threw it in the garbage when I wasn’t looking! So I bought the Samsung Flight at the pressure of an AT&T sales associate. Worst technolgy decision I’ve made yet! Terrible reception, calls drop, battery goes out without enough warning, mute button is activated by touch of cheek on the screen, poor speaker quality…can hardly hear if there’s any background noise around, bulky and clumsy to hold, very few choices in protective cases…these are just a few reasons I will NEVER recommend the Samsung Flight to anyone.
i love this phone! just got it today & im in love with it. NO charging issues. but the internet is not as fast though. it is similar to the Samsung Eternity & other phones & not much wallpapers to choose from. But i still love this phone
I think the flight like many other phones is good or bad depending on your taste. I’ve had it for about 2 weeks now and I really like it, no major problems yet. The battery life is good, the key board is a bit small, but like others said, you get used to it, i love the way it looks (but thats just me), it gets really good reception for where i live, really clear sound quality, AWESOME picture effects, the text memory is a little low, but eh. Personally I really love this phone, and I think the people who don’t just have different tastes or have defective phones, or enjoy complaining quite a bit. I would definitely recommend this to anyone. (also maybe the reason you have dropped calls is the network, not the phone…)
my phone is also having a rebooting issue. Whenever im in the middle of doing something important, it randomly reboots and doesnt save any of the work that i had been previously been doing.

I’ve had this phone for about two-three months now and I hate it. I’m a fast typer and the phone cannot keep up with me. I’ll go to text a sentence and it’ll only receive about five of my key commands & leave my words in a jumbled mess. Only ONE of my previous phones have had this issue and that was the Pantech Duo. In order to be sure it wasn’t just my mistake, I’ve resorted to typing slower and it still neglects to register when I’m pressing a button. & No, my phone has not received water damage.
There was one occasion when I had my phone sitting on a wooden table and it kept beeping, saying it was charging.. not charging.. charging.. Fully charged! I just started at it in complete confusion.
The touch screen can be unresponsive at times (90% of the time). When I want to open a message, I have to repeatedly tap the screen and scrolling is a complete fail. Now its developing a rebooting issue. Without fail, it’ll reboot whenever I try to take a picture or video. It’ll also randomly reboot, even if I’m not using it.
The reception sucks and it constantly drops calls, I don’t even bother making many anymore. The voicemail thing is definitely annoying (it’ll keep reminding you, even if you press exit). I’ve even set events and it won’t remind me until nearly 24 hours AFTER the fact. I’ve even made sure to set all the times and dates correctly. Just to test it, I set an event for a few minutes later and lo & behold, it didn’t remind me.
I usually like Samsungs phones but this one definitely sucked for me. Guess I’ll just have to call support and request a replacement (although, I’d rather not get another copy of this phone).
i got the samsung flight i week ago and it is still working like it is new. My touchscreen is fine and it is great that u can text with the keyboard and the screen. I give this phone a 4.5 out of 5.
I just recently received this phone from att on 07/09/10. This is my THIRD replacement phone from them. I loved the flight when I first tried it but it DROPS CALLS, the SCREEN JAMMED on me and it randomly REBOOTS. It mostly reboots at night while I’m charging. But it happens at other times as well. The first time it happened it woke me up at about 2am (woosh!!!) It kept doing it over and over again until I finally turned it off. I have also had the problem with not being able to CHARGE because the device was TOO HOT
this phone is great. the only problem i have with it, is that it doesn’t allow me to view incoming text message while i am on the phone…. =[

The only problem I have is that I cannot figure out how to put it on silent. When i goto profiles and set it on silent, once I get a text it vibrated. if anyone can help me out that would be GREAT!

I would not reccomend this phone to anyone. The touch screen is super sensitive and i find myself butt-dialing very often. It reboots randomly and most of the time when i plug it into the charger it simply does not charge. it will charge again after 2-3 days after the battery run’s out which of course means tons of missed calls/text messages and leaves me phoneless for that period of time. Do not buy this phone.
I’m so happy with my new unlocked cell phones! This has an unbelievably fast processor, great feel and easy to text on. I used to own a unlocked htc phones, but I’m so much happier with my brand new unlocked samsung phones. This Samsung Flight II is so much better for my business and pulls my email in so much faster. And I really couldn’t be happier with it since it is an unlocked聽tmobile phones and it’s a unlocked 3g phones I can take it overseas. My family loves my new phone and can’t get enough of the games. I’m going to purchase another one for my son for his birthday from gsmauthority.com. Definitely would recommend this phone.
